Biography

How is born VOLTURNA:

VOLTURNA is a swiss rock, metal, gothic, progressive, alternative band, created in april 2010. The band is formed by 3 members. Initially, Didier "DDA" and his wife Angéline were looking for some musicians to create a musical project. After some adverts, Sebastien Gabriel answered to them. The biggest surprise was that Didier "DDA" and Sebastien have already played music together some years ago in a heavy metal band called "Shining". Didier was the drummer and Sebastien was singer and lead guitarist! It was in 1986!

So they have met again to discuss about this new project, and Sebastien created a song, "Did I miss you?" positively inspired just after that meeting, during his way back to home, by train! That great song should be online here soon!

Then they have decided to meet once a week to cover some famous pop and rock hits, like "Russian Roulette" by Rihanna, their first attempt, and VOLTURNA is born! (The band's name was chosen by DDA, remembering Mandragora Scream album released in 2009).

Who is VOLTURNA:

Didier "DDA" is basicaly a drummer. He learned to play drums at 13. He was drummer with "Shining" with his mate Sebastien Gabriel from 1986 to 1987. Then, after several short terms bands, "DDA" joined the pop-rock band "JESTER" from 1989 to 2003 still on the drums. They have recorded their first CD in 1993 and were winners of the "Marlboro New Talents" contest in 1996 with their single "Cosmic Rings".

Then he got married to Angéline in september 2003, and gave birth to their daughter Cassandra in 2005.

In 2009 Angéline decided to go back to conservatory to take some classic lessons, and after few months she cracked under Didier's pressure to form a band together. And last summer they have inserted their first adverts through the web, and Magic Seb crossed again Didier's way!

So small is the world!

Didier "DDA" never learned to play the bass. He bought his first bass at 16 and play at ear. In 2001 he formed a band with some friends called "Humph", but only for few months! He was planning to play the bass with his new project with Angéline. Didier does have a nice collection of basses, but he mostly plays on his custom made Alembic Mark King Signature Deluxe, especially for the live gigs and recordings. He also uses David Eden WT-550 amp, D-112XLT and D-410XLT cabinets. He is still playing the drums for fun on his Roland TD-20X drumkit, which is by the way used by Sebastien for the recording sessions of VOLTURNA!

Beside that, Angéline & DDA are playing together in another pop-rock-disco band called "Rendez-vous", and Didier is also playing the bass in a rock band called "Nepenthes".
