Biography
Born and raised in the Swiss alps, Gwizidor developed an interest in playing guitar around the age of 16. As he progressed, his musical interests and songwriting changed; veering more towards prog and experimental rock. He began working on an album, writing and recording everything in his one-room apartment. To complete the album, he traveled to a music school in Bern where he recorded two songs with his friend Pierre Dayer on drums. On the way back from Bern, he got sidetracked and spent several days staying with friends, traveling by train and feeding off of junk food. During these wanderings, he met a new friend; an eccentric photographer who shares his passion for Hawaiian shirts and from whom he impulsively bought a synth. Back home again, he began recording sci-fi inspired songs with the synth which eventually became his debut album: ‘Is it Stone or Statue?’. For the album cover, he used a photo from the aforementioned photographer: R.R. Dionysus.
Shortly after the release of ‘IISOS?’ -coincidentally released on the same day as two of his favorite albums: ‘In the Court of the Crimson King’ and ‘(a) Senile Animal’- Gwizidor moved to California to pursue jobs in environmentalism, where he put the finishing touches on the first set of recordings, released as ‘Practice Makes Meh’. The art for this album was made on Autocad during lunch breaks at his first job as a mediocre civil engineering draftsman.
Somewhere surrounded by redwood forests, Gwizidor continues to play odd, gloomy songs and write about himself in the third person.
