CheRoba: L'occhio della betulla
Marco Santilli openly admits it: When he thinks music, he thinks Italian. The clarinettist from Ticino, who has long been part of the Swiss-German scene, also builds bridges to the south with his new quartet CheRoba. And the four musicians tell his stories as if they had been touring the clubs for years. There are echoes of the poet Hermann Hesse in Montagnola, melodies inspired by a poem in Ticino dialect, cleverly woven ballads and quotations from the jazz tradition - and in between, unleashed collective improvisation. Songs and jazz merge into a poetic mixture - styles and images are reflected in the eye of the birch tree. (Andreas Müller-Crepon)
