sound landscape for contemporary poetry...
We are a duo from geneva, born a couple of years ago from the meeting of a poet and a musician. One brought his words, the other his sounds, an evolution process began. Our art follows this encounter through a blend of spoken poetry and electronic music that renders unexpected compositions.
Our texts are either abstract, phrases that evoke known or unknown images, or tell a story. They are not sung nor rapped, just spoken to break melodies and rhythm.
The musical environment is a patchwork of digital and analog sounds, at times filled with rhythms and patterns, at times minimalist, isolated samples that weave harmony through noise.
Means of creation are also an important part of our work: music is inspired to us by sound experimentations and texts may take birth in automatic writing sessions, reminiscent of André Breton's school. Our inspirations range from the french surrealists of the beginning of the 20th century to the current composers of electronica and idm.
The interaction between sound and poems is different in each composition: the music serves as a guide to the listener or acts in a more perturbing way, hence increasing the complexity. A simple word or phrase may be whispered or yelled, the feelings are different. Silence is sometimes needed, noise is sometimes demanded.
Our sound landscapes make the words vibrate with different colors and interpretations. The surrounding music forces points of view to change and enables the expression of novel meanings. Poetry steps aside its classical framework and becomes part of a different image.
From this dialog arise performances that translate our emotions, in a pure and direct manner. They give to both poetry and music a new identity that the listener can experiment by traveling throughout his imagination.
