THE ELAN

Biography

Once upon a time in a magical, mystical forest in the darkest depths of the montagnes neuchâteloises, there was a lost soul walking through the woods. On her way, she came across a sick moose who stopped her in her tracks. The poor creature – in keeping with the rest of the world in 2020 – was suffering from a bad bout of Covid-19. Wondering how she could bring the moose back to life and inspired by her mystical surroundings, she decided to sing him a gothic lullaby called ‘Cobwebs’. The moose gradually stirred from his sleep and came around. Side by side, the pair disappear into the woods where they start off on a musical journey together.
The Elan are a duo: Karen (vocals) and Alex (guitar). We met and formed our band in spring 2020 right in the midst of Covid-19. At the time, I (Karen) had a few things I wanted to get off my chest and put to music while Alex – having just recovered from Covid-19 himself – felt a calling to compose songs and rediscover his elan. And so, out of a kind of musical therapy, the Elan were born. Our first album, Metaphor, was recorded at Hummus Records in La Chaux-de-Fonds and will be released very soon.
