Biographie
The Swiss saxophonist, pianist and songwriter Monika Tiken, who is from Erlenbach, a village near Zurich, has an intriguing background having studied jazz at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and also travelled to India to study the rich heritage of classical music of the country. Additionally, Monika performed and recorded with the moroccan group 'Naghma' for many years, finding musical connections between traditional moroccan rhythms and melodies and European styles of music.
With a performance experience ranging from street shows in Europe/USA early on in her career to large stages such as the Afro Pfingsten Festival, Volkshaus Zurich or the Open Air Visp, Monika is at home on any stage and was recently invited to perform as a guest on a show at the Zermatt Unplugged Festival in the Swiss Alps.
After the release of her first album 'Gold' (2.2.2022), the second album 'Circles' (30.6.2023) takes us on a very personal musical journey again, showing many different facets and shades.
'Listening to this disc feels like entering a story, the soundtrack of Monika’s life. Like an intimate journey into her soul. The soaring warmth of the saxophone, the changing rhythms and the many colors of the instruments are like a beautiful painting.' Christine Zufferey, Singer and Composer (France)
